Treatment for Lines and Wrinkles in the Face using Botulin Toxin Type A
This very popular and well known treatment is highly effective at softening fine lines and wrinkles in the upper part of the face, lips, jaw line and neck, leaving a more refreshed youthful appearance. At Medikas clinic, our two cosmetic doctors are experts in this treatment delivering exceptional results for a ‘natural, non-frozen look ‘
Why do lines and wrinkles develop?
Ageing is associated with the development of wrinkles, which are often unwanted and distressing. Wrinkles develop over time due to the loss of collagen in the skin after repeated use of the facial muscles and these become permanent lines and deep furrows. The effects of sun damage, smoking and stress can exacerbate the problem.
How can botulin toxin known as botox help?
Treatment with Botulinum Toxin (Botox® or Azzalure™) can visibly smooth and soften wrinkles and lines on the face by injecting tiny amounts directly into the muscles. The injections temporarily relax treated facial muscles, helping reduce the muscle contractions causing lines and wrinkles and ultimately helping the skin to repair. It is particularly effective on ‘dynamic’ lines caused by over active muscle contraction, such as; the frown lines between the eyebrows, the horizontal forehead lines, and the ‘crow’s feet’ or ‘laughter lines’, as well as correcting down turned mouths and neck lines.
By weakening the depressor or frown muscles, there is often a brow lift, which can help in the 40’s and 50’s to prevent heavy upper eye bags. Botox can help often tension headaches and migraines and this is now a recognized treatment for these problems.
Is botulin toxin (botox) safe?
This treatment has been used safely on over 1 million people worldwide for more than 11 years and still remains the most popular of all cosmetic treatments due to its exceptional success rate. It is a prescription only medication and should only be administered by an appropriately trained medical practitioner to ensure that the correct amount of treatment used is specific to each individuals need. Correctly performed treatment will leave the face with normal expression but with a more relaxed and youthful appearance.
Is the treatment painful?
The treatment involves a small number of carefully placed injections to accurately target the muscles we wish to affect. We use very fine needles; most people tolerate the treatment well and liken the injection to plucking a hair. The treatment takes no longer than 20 -30 minutes.
How will I look when I leave the clinic? Immediately after treatment there may be small bumps and redness like mosquito bites which usually resolve by the time you leave the clinic. It is very rare to get a small bruise. The beneficial effect of the treatment is usually seen 2-3 days later.
How long will the effects of botulin toxin (botox) last?
On average, your treatment will last between 3 and 6 months.
Once I have had treatment and it wears off, will I look worse than I did before?
No. Botulinum toxin will temporarily rest the muscles and prevent them from moving the overlying skin. Once the treatment wears off, you will go back to looking the same as you did before treatment. In fact, by not being able to crease the skin, you are actually preventing the wrinkles from deepening. Botox can be used as a preventative treatment in your 20’s and 30’s to prevent lines and wrinkles appearing in the first place.
Will I still be able to smile at my family and friends?
At Medikas, our experienced cosmetic doctors specialize in a lighter more natural looking treatment, which results in softening of the appearance of lines and wrinkles whilst preserving facial expression and the ability to smile, raise your brows.
The ‘ frozen ‘ look many fear is often a result of treatment from a less experienced practitioner.
Can Botox treatments be combined with other treatments?
A loss of volume within the face as well as thinning of the skin associated with ageing will also cause wrinkles. Dermal fillers such as Emervel or Restylane are often used in combination with Botox to fill deeper lines and restore volume.
Fine lines and skin texture and elasticity can be improved with chemical peels ,mesotherapy , fractional resurfacing and microneedling using the DermapenFNS.
Skin hydration can be improved with skin boosters such as Restylane Vital and Mesotherapy, which plump the skin from within. These forms of skin rejuvenation are very popular with our patients in their 40’s and 50’s as it may hold of the need for more invasive treatments such as face lifts.
How much does it cost?
Depending on the areas requiring treatment , our Botox prices start from £175.
